Sometimes the small things seem so big…
So, we had a pretty challenging day a few days ago. We all have them sometimes, and they are typically pretty lame when you are sitting in the midst of them. However, I don’t know about you, but it is days like these that I experience some of my sweetest moments with God. Well, on that specific challenging day, Jess and I shared one of those SWEET moments…
I’m not going to lie, that day was a really crappy day. I was going to be leading worship for a worship service that we have here the next day. So, I had to pick out some songs. Before I did so, though, I pulled out my guitar and the English songbook that I brought with us and started to worship. Jess joined in with me. It was a truly rich time for us…the richest we have had in quite a long time. We don’t get to worship in our native language very often. We have learned a lot of the language, and while we may know the gist of what we are singing, we rarely know EVERY word we are singing. So, it was a great time of worship. But, this isn’t even the main part I wanted to share…
After awhile of singing, I took a pause and Jess looked at me and said, “The same sparrow has been sitting on our balcony ever since we first began singing. A few others have come, but there is one that has stayed the entire time.” I started to play again, and could here the bird begin to chirp. I stopped, and the bird stopped. So, we continued to worship the Lord with his creation, which at the moment was a little tiny sparrow. I couldn’t stop smiling every time I heard the bird singing with us. That moment filled us with peace and greatly encouraged us.
Now, as I write this story out, I feel as though the Lord is clarifying His message to us through that little sparrow. “Therefore I tell you, do not worry about your life, what you will eat or drink; or about your body, what you will wear. Is not life more important than food, and the body more important than clothes? Look at the birds of the air; they do not sow or reap or store away in barns, and yet your heavenly Father feeds them. Are you not much more valuable then they? Who of you be worrying can add a single hour to his life?” (Matthew 6:25-27) We spent a lot of that day worrying. I am convinced that God had this word for us through that little bird. God is so cool!
